In-Country Adoptions

The goal of our Mana Gammachuu orphanage is to place each abandoned child into a forever family through formal adoption.  Since Ethiopia closed international adoptions in January 2018, we are expanding our efforts through local churches to share the biblical mandate for adoption with Ethiopian Christians. To date we have placed 80 abandoned children into Ethiopian families and we are hopeful that we will be able to find families for every child in the orphanage.

The adopting parents need to show stability and the wherewithal to provide for a child and this is done through a homestudy process.  This includes a doctor’s physical examination and a criminal background check as well as attendance at a two day training hosted by the orphanage.  All of this averages to about $350 per local adoption.  Finances should never be a barrier to permanency for children, and it is our goal to help Ethiopian couples with these costs so more children can realize a permanent family.

In order to instill God’s plan of adoption for orphaned children into a culture that typically doesn’t consider adopting, we provide training seminars facilitated by local churches.  These workshops provide a biblical framework for adoption as well as teaching the practical and legal steps needed to adopt a child.  It costs $3000 to prepare, host and staff each workshop which is attended by 5-10 couples, though your gift of any amount helps us make these necessary training workshops possible.
