The news of late has been about plagues, floods, violence and devastation. Politics, betrayal and accusations emanate from our TV screens. My pastor challenged his flock to go black for one week and use the time we would normally spend engaged with social media or news programs to saturate ourselves in God’s Word. It was healthy advice I took to heart. I purposed to fix my thoughts on what is “true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable and to think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (Philippians 4:8)
I gave thanks for all the big-hearted people who helped our brothers and sisters in Ethiopia get back on their feet after a horrific attack.
I asked God’s blessings on our stable, highly capable and compassionate staff in Ethiopia who persevere through inconveniences and scarcity.
There is nothing on earth that can renew my outlook like a baby. In the midst of all the violence and heartache swirling around them, the little ones in our care are cocooned in an oasis of tranquility. Their days are defined by predictable schedules, familiar voices and loving arms. Cries are quickly soothed and tummies are full.
I am happy to report our orphanage director has found a reliable source from which to purchase formula in Shashemene. It is quite expensive but because we have faithful monthly supporters, every baby under twelve months is getting all the nutrients necessary for optimum body and brain development.
All of us at NewLife have much to be thankful for!
Wonderful, Joy!
