Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of
the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to
obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this:
I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20
NewLife Ethiopia. What is that all about? God expects those who follow Him to bring people out of darkness and hopelessness into new life in Him. With Matthew 28:19 as our guiding light, we have designed all outreach in Ethiopia to point people to Jesus Christ. When that happens, Jesus is faithful to re-write life stories… in a big way! You and I have the privilege and joy of being a part of it!
NEW LIFE FOR CHILDREN
Mana Gammachuu means ‘Joyful place’ in the Orominya language. This tranquil oasis cares for babies who have been abandoned by their mothers. Most of the babies are born malnourished which tells a story of their mothers’ struggles. They are brought to Mana Gammachuu by the police or government worker where they are tenderly cared for until a permanent family can be found for them.
PASSING THE TORCH
Adoption is traditionally seen as the privilege and responsibility of affluent people, or at least people from countries where the resources to add to their family are available. Ethiopians do not place adoption on any scale of priority, and it has only been recently that we have seen some modification of this cultural mindset. There are several Christian organizations breaking ground to change the culture of adoption in Ethiopia, and NewLife Ethiopia is among them. We want to Pass the Torch of adoption to our Ethiopian brothers and sisters. We do that by hosting workshops for Christian people that cast vision for taking care of the orphans in their community. The goal for each child in the orphanage is new life in a family of their very own — a family who will introduce them to Jesus at an early age. Eleven of our babies have been legally adopted into a Christian family in Ethiopia! Read more and help us provide this necessary training here…
KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN
Kindergarten in Ethiopia typically spans three years and is quite academic. Children are expected to enter first grade as readers and should be proficient in addition and subtraction. Kindergarteners are also taught the basics of English. The Mana Gammachuu kindergarten in a rural M*slim village does more than teach the 3 R’s. Christian character traits are emphasized and Bible stories are taught that point to Jesus and God’s goodness and faithfulness. The children are invited to come to Sunday School at the church that is adjacent to the school.
